blank canvas paralysis grips you

Preamble

I’ve suffered from blank canvas paralysis for what feels like forever now.

Starting something new makes me freeze up. Especially if that thing is something I put value in.

The best way to deal with this is to shove aside those feelings of “what-ifs” and just put pencil to paper. Figuratively or literally.

I’ve clearly copied my blog from my friend goober, check out the gooberverse.

I’m going to use this blog to write and post my mundane thoughts. I’ll try to make them sort of interesting :)

I will warn you now that I ramble a lot. Especially when left to express my thoughts unabated.

Grip Strength

Today I brought a grip strength tester into the office. Also known as a dynamometer. You can find all sorts of charts online to gauge your grip strength relative to your age/sex. I bought a cheap one from Amazon, so I don’t know how much metrologic accuracy we get for $15 but it seems pretty internally consistent. I also can’t vet the accuracy of this, but I found a site that will tell you your percentile strength relative to people your age/sex/height.

Not to brag or anything (absolutely to brag and everything) but I am apparently in the top 8% of people my age/sex/height 😎

I also have the strongest grip in our office (ignore the fact that we have only 3 people in our office).

My left hand used to be much worse. Like 130 at best. I have been lifting weights consistently now for 8 weeks. But it seems only my left has improved. But that’s still progress. Not that I have been working out my grip explicitly, but perhaps I should:

Did you know that your grip strength is one of the best predictors of longevity? Maybe if I can get it all the way to 300 lbs I can double my lifespan.

So if you’re reading this, start working out that grip strength so you can live longer.

That’s how statistics work right..?
